Beer and Bird opened in April this year, in a town that is already rammed full of excellent, (and I mean excellent) places to eat. You may not have worked out yet how much we love America and its food so the promise of amazing fried chicken saw all my intentions to solely eat seafood fly out the window.
We had a look for some reviews before we went in, not realising at the time it was in its infancy. I’m sometimes a little wary of new places that the service might not be great or the food slow as it’s not yet up to scratch, but my cynicism was unfounded here. The booths, reclaimed wooden tables and industrial lighting is somewhat commonplace in restaurants but I love it all the same.
What makes this place stand out though is the focus on craft beers and with over 100 to choose from it would take a while to make your way through the list. The other thing I loved is that rather than being a typical burger joint its focus is chicken (bet you didn’t guess that from the name). And chicken done well. Really well.
Ollie had the Large Bucket of Bird and I had The Alligator Pear Burger. I’m going to let you discover what that is for yourselves.
Well worth the visit, perfect food, very friendly and efficient service and right in the centre of St Ives on Fore Street.
