Revisiting a special venue

In 2012 we got married at the Christchurch Harbour hotel in Dorset and whilst the neighbouring beaches of Highcliffe and Mudeford have since become firm favourites to walk Bailey, we’ve never actually been back to the hotel until recently.

On our return visit we discovered the hotel had undergone a beautiful refurbishment with stylish interiors a redesigned bar and updated bedrooms. We were visiting for my birthday and Ollie booked a harbour view room with an outdoor terrace.

We spent a day in the spa which includes an indoor pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and ice experience. There is also an outdoor sun deck which is a great way for them to extend the spa without creating an outdoor pool, which there isn’t for. We each had a spa treatment which we both agreed were as painful as they were relaxing!

Dinner was booked at The Jetty, the hotels signature restaurant which specialises in sea food, I can highly recommend the seafood platter and cheese souffle. An incredible meal overlooking the sea was the best way to spend my birthday.

The hotel offers free kayaks and paddle boards which is a great way to explore some of this beautiful coastline. The busy quay of Mudeford is filled with families crabbing, eating ice creams and building sandcastles. If you walk further down towards Highcliffe and away from the cafes, it becomes quieter, with stretches of sand and stone perfect for ambling for hours. The views across to the Isle of Wight are a beautiful sight.

The Christchurch Harbour Hotel is part of the Harbour group and has regular offers for mid-week stays. Visit the website for more information www.harbourhotels.co.uk
